A joint venture made up of Tenaris and Socotherm recently opened facilities at a new marine base near the Port of Ubu that serves Brazil's offshore oil and gas industry. The opening ceremony was attended by Zeno Soave, CEO of Socotherm Group and chairman of Socotherm Brasil, and Ricardo Soler, COO of Tenaris' Welded Pipes Division. The facilities include a plant to apply three-layer polyethylene external pipe coating and a plant for syntactic polypropylene pipe thermal insulation for deepwater fields. In addition, the facility houses a double jointing manufacturing plant capable of coating pipes up to 24 meters in length. The plant is scheduled to start pipe coating and insulation work for BP's six-field Greater Plutonio development in Angola. Located in waters ranging from 500-1,600 meters, Greater Plutonio is the first BP-operated project in Angola.
