Alan McMillan, President/CEO of the National Safety Council, recently presented Fred W. Cripps, owner/CEO of Distribution Construction Co., a natural gas pipeline contracting company headquartered in Greensboro, NC, with the 2005 Green Cross for Safety Excellence and Significant Improvement Awards for outstanding achievement in the field of Occupational Safety and Health. The presentations were made during the National Safety Council's annual awards banquet hosted by its California Chapter at the Millennium Biltmore Hotel in Los Angeles. The Plastics Pipe Institute (PPI) recently presented its Lifetime Achievement Award to P. Paul Petro, Ph.D., for his outstanding commitment to the technological advancement of high-density polyethylene (HDPE) pipe. Petro is a chemical scientist who spent many years in materials engineering and recently retired as president and general manager of Performance Pipe - a division of Chevron Phillips Chemical Co. - after 26 years of service. His accomplishments include the authorship and co-authorship of many publications for the pipeline industry, American Gas Association, Thermochim Acta and the U.S. Army Missile Command.
