A company fleet of portable CNG and LNG gas supply equipment was effectively employed by Pacific Gas & Electric Co. (PG&E) as the sole supply for Treasure Island in San Francisco Bay during a nine-day planned outage of pipeline supply.rnTreasure Island was built in the middle of the San Francisco Bay in the mid 1930s as a site for the World's Fair. Longer-term plans were to use the site as a commercial airport and shipping port for the region. The new island was created from fill placed to the north of the existing Yerba Buena Island, a steep rocky landmark in the middle of San Francisco Bay.World War II resulted in a change in plans for Treasure Island to serve as a base for the Navy. It was maintained as a Navy facility until the late 1990s. The island now has 6,000 residential and commercial customers using the retired Navy facilities.
