J. Ray McDermott Executes Float-Over Success In Gulf Of Thailand

In December 2007, J. Ray McDermott completed the float-over installation of the largest integrated deck in Southeast Asia. The 17,000-metric ton Arthit Process Platform (APP) was built for PTT Exploration & Production Public Co. Limited (PTTEP) at J. Ray's fabrication site on Batam Island, Indonesia. Float-over installation was performed in the Arthit field in 80 meters of water in the Gulf of Thailand, approximately 640 km south of Bangkok. The substructure (jacket) was also fabricated by J. Ray's Batam facility. With no barge readily available with required capacity to load out, transport and install the Arthit deck, J. Ray used its expertise to modify the company's existing transport and launch barge, Intermac 650 (1-650), to handle large topside float-over projects. The barge-modification team comprised engineers from the company's engineering, marine and equipment and maintenance groups, working from offices in Houston, New Orleans, Singapore, and Batam Island.
