Michels Uses HDD Record to Handle Northern Courier Pipeline Challenge

Michels used horizontal directional drilling (HDD) beneath the Athabasca River on Nov. 21 to complete a company record 1.36-mile installation - the longest in North America for a 42-inch pipe. The installation came during construction of the 56-mile Northern Courier Pipeline project that TransCanada was selected to design, build, own and operate by Fort Hills Energy LP. When completed, the pipeline will transport bitumen and diluent products between the Fort Hills Mine and Bitumen Extraction Facility (Fort Hills) to Suncor's East Tank Farm, located north of Fort McMurray, Alberta.
