Ooperators in Africa are moving forward with plans to build long-distance pipe lines designed to move oil and gas to distant markets. Construction of the Chad-Cameroon oil pipe line will start next year, and BP Amoco and Sonatrach are moving forward with their projects in Algeria. In Ethiopia and Nigeria, efforts are being made to use gas-to-liquids (GTL) technology to commercialize gas currently being flared, or located in remote fields, into marketable fuels. Angola and Egypt have launched projects to commercialize remote or associated gas through liquefied natural gas (LNG) technology.
