Click chemistry is a powerful and popular concept in preparatory chemistry. However, in certain cases, the criteria used to evaluate the success of a click conjugation in the formation of block copolymers are often ill defined and based on the qualitative shape of the size exclusion chromatography (SEC) distribution as well other unsuitable characteristics such as the peak molecular weight. Now, new data published in Macromolecular Rapid Communications confirms that a reliable assessment of the effectiveness of the click conjugation cannot be conclusively derived from the shape of the SEC distribution of the click product.
