A perspective on present and future navigation and positioning systems for underwater applications

In recent years tremendous improvements have been made in the field of underwater positioning and navigation systems; new technologies have appeared (fused inertial navigation) and existing technologies like Ultra Short Base Line (USBL) and Long Base Line (LBL) systems have been greatly improved. In this paper iXsea , a company specialising in underwater positioning and navigation systems, describes the existing systems and emerging technologies.
