In deepwater, riser systems must be able to withstand high loads varying in magnitude and in nature along their lengths. This makes the design and construction of deepwater riser systems a challenging and complex activity. For flexible risers these challenges are addressed with different innovative designs that have been validated through full scale and field tests, and are being used on projects worldwide to water depths of 1,900 m. This existing and validated technology, and the new technology currently under development for even deeper water, makes the flexible riser a valuable solution for deepwater field development in Asia. This is the second part of a two-part series. The first part appeared in the last issue.
