Natural Gas a Beacon for Region....

Natural gas is seen as the next big thing in the energy industry; abundant supply and clean energy being just two of its major positive attributes. The attraction of gas is prevalent globally but in Southeast Asia it is arguably stronger than anywhere else in the world. From regional leaders Indonesia and Malaysia to relative newcomers Myanmar, it is a gas-rich region. Bearing this, and the upcoming ASCOPE, in mind this issue of PetroMin focuses greatly on gas. We kickstart the issue with a commentary on natural gas by Prof. Ferdinand Banks, one of our editorial advisors. Prof. Banks is a highly regarded luminary on energy issues and is a former consultant to the UN development program, who enjoys debating energy issues. His contribution to this issue is to comment on the state of affairs created by the buzz of shale gas, which I assure will make interesting reading.
