Grassroots Urge Obama Administration To Stop Pesticide Poisoning And Advance Healthy Land And Building Management

Since this issue of Pesticides and You contains a coalition position statement urging the Obama Administration to adopt new approaches to regulating pesticides and replace poisons with healthy management practices, the letters section is dedicated to comments we received on our blog about the document, Transforming Government's Approach to Regulating Pesticides. The comments capture the human side and serious adverse effects of poor regulation and articulate why a change in our current approach to risk assessment and the acceptance of unnecessary pesticide use, given the availability of green practices and products, is in urgent need of change. I live with a chronic, painful neurological condition which I have suffered with for 15 years, due to lifelong exposures to pesticides. I react to Lysol and want our government to regulate products like this (pesticides products for domestic use) because they are linked to many forms of disease including asthma, cancer and neurological conditions like mine. Why are we being sold products and told they are safe when the scientific and medical communities have documented the human health hazards of such products for years? We want inert ingredients listed as well. We want full disclosure of the health risks associated with these products, and we want accountability from the companies that market such products. We should phase out the use of aerosol disinfectants in schools, hospitals and other public places. They are making us all very sick.
