Ubersetzen Mit Doppeltem Skopos. Eine Empirische Prozess - Und Produktstudie (translating With A Twofold Skopos. An Empirical Study Of Process And Product In Translation.)
What is the real influence of a defined audience on the translation process and product? Is there a difference in behaviour between professional translators with a long working experience and semiprofessionals with less working experience? Ulf Norberg's doctoral thesis tries to answer these question on the basis of an experimental study with eight translators (four of them professionals, the other four 'semi-professionals') performing translation tasks from German into Swedish. The subjects were asked to translate the same source text (a short news item from the German weekly magazine Der Spiegel) for two fictitious audiences: first for a Swedish morning paper (Dagens Nyheter) and then for a magazine published for children between the age of 8 and 12 (Kamratposten), verbalising as much of their thinking as possible. The data were collected in think-aloud protocols (TAPs). Additionally, the subjects were asked to prove their comprehension of the text by retelling the text before and after the first translation task and by filling in the blanks of a worksheet after the second task.
