Translation Studies and the mirage of a lingua franca

摘要

During the last two decades, Translation Studies has not been oblivious to the strains between the monolingualism defended by those who consider that English should be the lingua franca within our discipline and the multilingualism of those who defend linguistic diversity and translation as a vehicle for the creation and communication of thinking and research, together with their dissemination. In this article we perform a bibliometric analysis of the use of English and other European languages within the scientific production of Translation Studies, based on the BITRA database. The data collected reveal that there are certain relationships between languages, lines of research, researchers' attitudes, channels of communication, and supporting institutions.
