Isambard Kingdom Brunei : A Near Encounter

In early 1930 a young lad of some four years of age was scrubbed and polished by his mother, prior to making a visit to an old gentleman. It was a warm and sunny Wednesday afternoon and father's half day off from working in the ironmonger's shop - he was a Master Ironmonger. The little boy sensed that today was quite an important occasion. The pair set off from their home in Acton to walk to the Great Western Railway's 'Railway Estate' (often known as the 'Masons Lane Estate') in West Acton, a relatively new development, nearly two miles away. The little boy was wearing the normal dress of the day for persons of his age - white shirt, short (very!) grey flannel trousers, short white socks, and leather sandals; and as father and son walked they chatted amiably about the visit on which they were embarked.
