Carlos Slim puts bomb　under European telecoms　market

The Mexican telecoms and broadcastingnmagnate Carlos Slim – wealthiest mannin the world and owner of the businessnconglomerate Grupo Carso – has put an28% bid for the Netherlands’ incumbentntelco KPN on the table. This is a veryninteresting and significant move. As isnoften the case, new winners tend tonarrive when previous winners becomenlosers, especially when they arenbecoming weaker and thus easier tonattack. The new winners in the 21stncentury will come from what in then20th century were called developingncountries. In the communications sectornin particular we have seen that thesencountries – be they in Africa, Asia ornSouth America – have seen the mostnspectacular growth. Because of theirnvery large populations, growth in thesenmarkets adds up to very big numbers.
