Marseille aims for mega cruise ship repair market

Marseille Fos Port Authority is targeting mid 2015 to complete the €28 million renovation of its drydock to provide a base for cruise ship repair and maintenance. The 465m long and 85m wide drydock will be a facility for cruise ships in the Mediterranean, where 65 per cent of the world's largest cruise ships operate, said a statement from the French port. These include ships of up to 360m that currently call at Marseille. Repair operations will be carried out under a 25 year franchise awarded to a group that includes San Giorgio del Porto of Italy, the Mediterranean's largest shiprepairer.
