Spotlight on safety at Interferry conference

In a further response to the sinking of the South Korean ferry Sewol in April, safety issues will be centre stage at Interferry's 39th annual conference, which takes place in Vancouver from 4-8 October. The trade association said that, prompted by the incident, it was in discussions with IMO about assisting efforts to improve domestic ferry safety. IMO's latest safety strategy will be examined at the upcoming conference by special guest speaker Jeff Lantz, US Coast Guard regulations director and chairman of the IMO Council.
