New Zealand ship designer wins contract to build Seattle terries

New Zealand-based Teknicraft Design has been commissioned for the design of two 280-passenger aluminium catamarans for operator King County Ferry District, Washington, USA. The sister vessels will operate water taxi routes in Seattle. The construction of the 32m vessels will take place at All American Marine's shipyard in Bellingham, which has built more than forty of Teknicraft's designs in the past. The vessels will be constructed in accordance with US Coast Guard Subchapter K regulations and will feature the Teknicraft Design signature hull shape with symmetrical bow, asymmetrical tunnel, and integrated wave piercer. They will be powered by twin Cummins QSK50 Tier Ⅲ engines, rated 1,342kW at 1,900 rpm. Fully laden service speed will be 28 knots.
