Box Demand Gains Momentum

"Jobless recovery" may be a good election slogan but it will soon be running out of steam. Businesses are improving and plan more new hires according to surveys. Although the number of manufacturing jobs will not return to their 2000 year highs, there will be more people employed in manufacturing companies six months from now. New orders are also advancing and packaging demand is responding. The corrugated box market is rising as the Tuner had predicted. The momentum of shipments is getting stronger as the chart on page 10 shows. The Timer surged in the closing months of 2003 and is advancing more slowly now as it usually does following a surge. The important point is that it remains above 1.0 and that signals a continued rise in box demand.
