Bhadrachalam unit rated 'Greenest' paper mill in India

New delhi, india - An exhaustive green rating study of India's 350 strong paper and pulp industry carried out by the New Delhi-based non profit research entity Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) gives three leaf rating to ITC's Bhadrachalam Paper production unit. This top rated "greenest" paper mill has been commended for being the first Indian manufacturing outfit to move chlorine free technology which has made it eligible for selling food grade, non toxic packaging paper. The plant, which invested Rs.5000 million (US$109.64 million) in 2001 to make it more productive and less polluting, has also installed a lime kiln to take care of the sludge problem.
