A paper mill has a paper web winding assembly with a spindle supported at each end by a guide head (5) and upright linear (7) guide. The weight of the paper roll is taken by a supporting drum each side of the growing paper roll. The guide head spindle (9) is located within a rubber bush (10) held within a sliding (6) guide element (8).
