Right from the raw material preparation to the finishing stages, materials based on ceramics, find use now-a-days. Ceramic materials, used in pulp and paper mills are quite specialised products, manufactured specially meant for paper and few other industries to combat the harsh environments of abrasion, corrosion and thermal shock. The paper machine former, press and dryer are presently provided with special ceramic substances, which are results of long research endeavour. Admittedly the subject is of utmost importance and interest to the pulp, paper and allied industries. However, the pulp and paper manufacturers have hardly any notion on the materials composition or their fabrication process. Even most of the machinery and equipment manufacturers possess little knowledge on the materials. The few who possess the knowledge on the subject, have certainly the monopoly at international level. Materials using micro and nanotech-nology have started evolving now, the major contributions being from the metallurgists and material scientists. The next decade is certain to witness increase in the use of composite materials with enhanced and miraculous properties, replacing the conventional metals and alloys.
