Coley Porter Bell (CPB), a strategic brand design agency that has produced defining and award-winning work for the likes of Kotex, Unilever, BP, SABMiller, Woolworths and Cape Town Tourism, recently held its annual VlsualFutures project. This identifies the major design trend expected to have the greatest impact in the months to come. This year, 'bite-size' has been chosen as the leading trend. It refers not only to food, but also to our increasing desire to 'snack' on products, information, entertainment and living. With a less-is-more approach, VlsualFutures explores how this snack culture is manifesting itself in the world of design and communication and how brands are responding to it. Mathew Weiss, CPB's planning director, examines the implications.
