Margins under pressure as summer heralds increasing input costs across the industry

Rising raw materials costs have continued to put pressure on even the biggest packaging producers this summer.rnBeverage can maker Rexam announced a fall in pre-tax profits of more than one third as a result of rising aluminium prices. In the corrugated packaging sector, Smurfit Kappa and DS Smith said further price increases may be required to counter higher input costs (see box).
