Novamont pushes for a bioplastic future

Novamont has evolved from its original begining in 1989 when it was founded as a research centre on renewable raw materials to achieve an ambitious project by some Italian researchers: the inte-gration of chemistry, the natural environment and agriculture. The company says the legacy persists today-Novamont has asolid presence in the European bio-economy and its third-generation bio-refineries integrated into the local area are a sign of this evolution. Novamont employs around 400 employees, a turnover of €136m and makes constant investments in research and development(6.2% of 2013 sales). PN caught up with chief executive Catia Bastioli to discuss the business and the issues of bio-technology and plastic bag legislation.
