New Tools Light Print's Path Through the Regulatory Forest

Environmental regulation and workplace safety have long been near the top of the list of concerns facing today's package printers. Government regulators and industry organizations are cooperating on initiatives that should both clarify print's environmental impacts and make it easier to reduce emissions and comply with the law. Package printers, of course, share many environmental concerns with the printing industry in general—as well as workplace safety regulations that apply broadly to manufacturing settings. These concerns focus on ozone pollution caused by Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) in solvent-based inks, water pollution from disposal of prepress and press washup chemicals, and improper disposal of used inks, washing agents, shop rags, photo processing solutions, and the like.
