EDITOR'S INTRODUCTION

PTC was founded in 1980 largely because of the need for a broad forum to discuss/trans-Pacific satellite communication issues. Since then, PTC has grown to encompass all issues relevant to telecommunications and information systems. This issue of the PTR~® is devoted to satellite communications: past, present and future. Like PTC, the satellite communication industry now has to deal with a world that is much more complex than it was 20 years ago.
