The arrival of two F-35s at RAAF Base Williamtown, just outside Newcastle, on December 10 marked a vital day for the ADF. While there are a number of advanced platforms and sensors already in service, such as 'Wedgetail' AEW&C aircraft and Aegis'-equipped Air Warfare Destroyers, it is the revolutionary F-35s that will be at the heart of Australia's combat capabilities for decades to come. Now that their 5th generation technology can start to be harnessed, the RAAF will maintain its position as one of the world's most modern air arms.
