Sewer Company Fined for Problems In Four Towns

Gerardi Sewer & Water Co. of Norridge faces proposed penalties of $360,000 for eight willful, two serious, and three repeat violations for failing to protect workers from cave-ins during trenching operations. The citations arose from work the company performed in the towns of Elmhurst, Park Ridge, Oak Lawn, and Des Plaines. OSHA claims that although Gerardi's president and foreman were present at each jobsite and knew the safety requirements, they still failed to protect employees.
