A regional perspective on the Commission on Social Determinants of Health report

There is a strong commitment in the region to promoting activities on the social determinants of health in the Eastern Mediterranean Region (EMR) of WHO, a varied region with 500 million inhabitants extending from Morocco in the west to Pakistan in the east. We welcome the final report as a powerful advocacy tool that can be used in the Region, and we very much appreciated Sir Michael's presence at a meeting in Cairo last month. Last week, at a regional conference on primary health care in Qatar, 500 participants listened to a presentation on the social determinants of health.
