In this work, we synthesized fluorescent chicken egg white mediated platinum nanoclusters (CEW-Pt NCs) via one-step synthetic approach using chicken egg white as template as well as stabilizing agent. The-as synthesized fluorescent CEW-Pt NCs gives blue fluorescence at 365 nm of UV lamp. The fluorescent CEW-Pt NCs exhibit the emission at 406 nm when excited at 330 nm. Taking CEW-Pt NCs as a model nanoprobe, the fluorescence "turnoff' mechanism is developed for assaying of carbidopa based on the linear quenching of emission peak intensity at 406 nm. The carbidopa acts as a quencher, resulting to exhibit a linear response in the range of 5.0-35 mu M with the detection limit of 1.71 mu M. The fluorescence quenching of CEW-Pt NCs exhibits selectivity toward carbidopa over other similar drugs and chemical (inorganic and biomolecules). This method is shown to be a miniaturized analytical platform for assaying of carbidopa in its pharmaceutical samples and biofluids, which could open up a new and straightforward platform for assaying of carbidopa in real samples.
