The impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI) has been profound due to the ongoing surge of autonomous vehicles, voice-assisted social media applications, robotics, intelligent healthcare applications, business analytics, and others. Although systems researchers for some time have been exploiting AI to improve a wide range of software systems, from embedded control systems to large-scale distributed systems, ACM SIGOPS Operating System Review (OSR) has not yet published an issue on AI techniques that empower software systems. The need for large-scale infrastructure for Machine Learning (ML) workloads has reached an inflection point, making this the right time for an OSR issue focused on AI-powered system software. We believe that this issue will be beneficial to a broader audience from both academia and industry.
