It is with genuine sorrow and a profound sense of loss we inform the Readers that our friend, colleague and teacher, for many years an editor of ROMP and OSID, Professor Andrzej Kossakowski, passed away last February at the age of 83.Recognised worldwide for his outstanding contribution to mathematical physics, to us he was a very cheerful, friendly and humble man of a great mind and sophistication.Andrzej Kossakowski was born in Lwow in 1938. He graduated in physics at Nicolaus Copernicus University in 1960, and continued his scientific career there with doctorate in 1966, habilitation in 1972 and the position of full professor in 1992. He also held many visiting positions, in particular in Stuttgart, Austin in Texas, Milan, Essen, Leuven, Santiago de Chile, Naples and Tokyo.
