High stakes: how climate change negotiations could affect oil-producing countries

There can be little doubt about the severity of the impact on oil-producing countries of the possible outcome of the international negotiations on the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (FCCC). Oil producers, especially those in the developing world, stand to lose heavily if some of the stringent measures, now under consideration in various international fora, are implemented across the globe. This is why OPEC, is taking the climate change debate very seriously and participating in it to the fullest extent possible.
