Open J-Gate, DOAJ, The Serials Directory

MY first pick is Open J-Gate, an important contribution by Informatics India, Ltd., that promotes awareness of and access to open access papers from more than 4,000 English-language journals published anywhere in the world. The other pick is DOAJ (Directory of Open Access Journals), which does not rest on its laurels, but keeps enhancing its database and services. This cannot be said of my pan, The Serials Directory (TSD), which EBSCO launched in the late 1980s. At the time, despite its limitations, it presented an alternative to Ulrich's Periodicals Directory. Now, The Serials Directory seems to have languished (although not as much as the once-good PubList after it was acquired by Infotrieve), possibly to fade entirely away.
