Gale, a part of Cengage Learning, and EBSCO traded barbs over exclusivity after EBSCO announced that it had signed contracts with Forbes and Time, Inc. to become the exclusive purveyor of several popular magazine titles (Forbes, TIME, Sports Illustrated, Money, and People). This follows EBSCO's previous pattern with publications such as Harvard Business Review and databases such as Ageline. Gale's John Barnes wrote an "open letter to the library community" in which he strongly criticized EBSCO's policies of locking up content on its own system.
