A common reaction to Martin Ford's 2009 book, The Lights in the Tunnel: Automation, Accelerating Technology and the Economy of the Future (Ac-culant Publishing), was, "Let's wait and see." Don't remember Ford's book? He argued that artificial intelligence (AI) and the outsourcing of information tasks would eliminate the roles of a vast host of information workers, although he didn't specifically mention librarians.
