Sex and the Internet have always been willing bedfellows ― sex has financed the Net's development, and the online world has provided myriad opportunities for both sexual expression and exploitation. But what about death? It may not be as established as sex in the Internet's consciousness, but freed from the awkwardness of face-to-face discussion, there are few subjects more fascinating to a human being than mortality. The Internet reveals what remains one of western society's greatest taboos. As with sex, the way the Internet treats the issue of death is liberating, terrifying ― and just plain weird.
