On Tuesday 29 January 2008 the Suez Canal was shut for 22 hours due to bad weather. Southbound ships were not permitted to enter, causing tail backs the following day. Nasser Al Sowaidi, chairman of Abu Dhabi's economic department, has reported that $10bn will be invested in infrastructure projects, which includes the development of Khalifa Port and industrial zone. Furthermore $18bn has been set aside to expand the emirate's refining capacity.
