1. At the end of August, the secondhand tanker price index stood at 134.5 points, the highest level since May 2011. The uptick in the index was driven by the guideline price for a five-year old coated Panamax rising by 4% m-o-m to $37.5m. 2. A total of 238 tankers have been reported sold in the first 8 months of 2015, of which 38 have been Aframaxes. In August it was reported that Philly Tankers had agreed the sale of four 50,000 dwt MR product tankers, currently under construction at Aker Philadelphia (who own Philly Tankers) to clients of Kinder Morgan for an en bloc price of $568m. The firm price, when compared to other MR resales, is due to the vessels being eligible for 'Jones Act' trading. The vessels are scheduled for delivery in 2016 and 2017. Meanwhile, clients of Target Marine purchased two 2008-built MR tankers of around 51,000 dwt, the "HARBOUR STAR" and the "SUPER STAR" for $24.5m per vessel.
