The joint industry project (JIP) developed and demonstrated NDE technology for inspection of flaws in adhesively bonded GRP pipe joints, with the following conclusions: 1. The IPM is a feasible method to detect dry spots in adhesively bonded joints. Portability, ease of interpretation, and technical capabilities are important features. 2. From the NDE equipment viewpoint, acceptance criteria for smallest detectable flaw (10 mm) is established. 3. Procedures for use of the IPM in field conditions are developed. 4. Grinding of joint surfaces does not have detrimental effects on the mechanical performance of GRP pipe joints. 5. The IPM method shows good cost performance compared to other ultrasonic methods.
