Using Sugar Factory Carbonatation Lime for Flue-Gas Desulfurization

Studies have been carried out by the Institut francais du petrole and Bacock Entreprise to demonstrate that sugar factory cabonatation lime can be used as a desulfurization agent in the Aude boiler, which is a new combustion apparatus designed to use high sulfur fuels. Tests have been conducted both in the laboratory and on a near-industrial-scale 10 MW boiler. Sugar factory carbonatation lime provides greater desulfurization efficiency than that obtained using finely crushed natural limestone.
