Bill Gates investment firm may sell stake in renewable fuels venture

Microsoft founder Bill Gates may be about to shed his investment in the ethanol business. Cascade Investment, owned by Gates, filed papers at midmonth that would allow it to sell its 21% stake in Pacific Ethanol. The filing with the SEC could result in the conversion of Cascade's preferred stock into 10.5 million common shares that would be offered to the public.
