Oil heat dealers propose new marketer-funded lobbying center that they would run

Marketers in New England want to become the industry's sole voice on heating oil issues - they say they could do a better job and move faster than their national trade association, and there would be no more "costly and unnecessary duplication" of effort. The proposal was outlined by Shane Sweet, CEO of the New England Fuel Institute. The Massachusetts-based group says it represents more than 1,100 heating oil and other marketers in the Northeast. Sweet's plan calls for the Petroleum Marketers Assn. of America to sign a one-year contract that would declare NEFI to be its "exclusive oil heat advocacy mechanism." NEFI would use its current staff to run a legislative and regulatory action center, which would be funded by marketer contributions. PMAA would ask its other state associations to raise donations from their members to help Finance the effort.
