DTN purchased by tech firm owned by European bio-giant

A company that is majority-owned by multinational technology and renewable fuels giant Abengoa has bought DTN, the Omaha-based firm that moves most of the price messages and supplier-to-customer communications in U.S. fuel markets. Multi-billion dollar Abengoa owns about a 62% stake in Telvent, a U.S. public company launched in October 2004 that has agreed to pay $445 million for DTN, which in addition to its energy business has a large customer base in agriculture. The deal should close before year's end. Telvent will pay cash for DTN, thanks to loan deals with two European banks and $103 million that it has raised in a private equity placement, which includes $76 million put up by Abengoa. Among the parent company's subsidiaries is Abengoa Bioenergy, the largest European ethanol producer and one of the biggest manufacturers of biofuels in the U.S. and Brazil.
