摘要

A Lakeland, Fla., couple was sentenced to federal prison last week for bilking $20.6 million out of investors who thought they were investing in a biodiesel production plant. Karl Rehberg, 65, received five years in prison and his wife Helen, 67, got two years for selling unregistered securities. Both were ordered by the U.S. District Court in Tampa to pay $20.6 million in restitution and to serve three years of probation upon their release. The pair was captured in Mesa, Ariz., in August last year after 10 years on the lam under various disguises and identities, including one in which Karl dressed as a woman, calling himself Peggy Helms. The couple was identified after local authorities received a tip that a couple in their 60s were "acting strangely during the course of their employment at a local business," according to court documents.
