Five-state East Coast c-store chain Wawa says it has ended a 12-month test of discount-for-cash fuel sales following a negative reaction from some customers. The Pennsylvania chain had experimented with the concept at 11 sites in three rural New Jersey and Pennsylvania counties. According to Wawa public relations manager, Lori Bruce, the firm's credit card customers felt that they were being penalized for using plastic.The 560-store chain based its decision on internal research and not on any action by state weights and measures officials, according to press reports.
