Funding switch leaves jobbers facing 18cts/gal tax bill

State officials are hitting marketers in Indiana with back tax bills of 18cts/gal after funding for an E85 sales tax credit ran out. State revenue officials neglected to tell jobbers or their trade association that the sales tax credit coffers dried up three months ago, according to Scott Imus, executive director of the IndianaPetroleum Marketers and Convenience Store Assn. Several jobbers have reported that the state has rejected their May tax returns because of the funding loss. The state also is denying some wholesalers their collection allowance because they filed what have subsequently become inaccurate returns.
