Citgo warns of card abuse, fraud

Citgo is warning marketers about what it calls misuse of its gift card program. Some dealers are activating gift cards for cash customers who typically pay inside the store. The consumers aren't actually purchasing the cards, however. The card is never put into the customer's hands, says Citgo. The company says this is circumventing the intent of the program. Sites caught moving the cards in this manner will see the 1 % activation discount removed. Retail sites should activate a gift card only "upon the request of a consumer who wishes to purchase one" jobbers were told.
