Fleets set break-even mileage number for DEF investment

Fleets deciding whether to buy 2010 trucks that will require Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) should take into account how many miles they intend to drive before investing in the technology. That was the consensus among trucking companies attending OPIS' Fleet Fueling Conference & Exhibition in Atlanta this week. With Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) systems costing about $10,000 per truck, unless the vehicle is expected to travel 110,000 miles or more a year, the investment won't pay off, said some fleet owners.
